LinkedIn quietly changed how it distributes content — and most people are still playing by rules that no longer exist.

The platform isn't rewarding consistency anymore. It's rewarding credibility. That shift has made a lot of "best practices" not just ineffective, but actively working against you.

These are the 10 mistakes killing your LinkedIn reach right now — and exactly how to fix each one.

  1. Treating follower count as your scoreboard — measures accumulation, not performance. Fix: track reach among non-followers and impressions-to-follower ratio instead.

  2. A profile that doesn't match your content — the algorithm reads your profile FIRST; a mismatch fails you before you post. Fix: make your headline, About, and last 10 posts all tell the same story.

  3. Posting about five different things — a scattered feed reads as noise to a system trying to categorize you. Fix: pick 2–3 themes. The riches are in the niches.

  4. Judging posts by likes — likes take half a second and signal nothing. Fix: optimize for saves and sends — the bookmark-worthy, send-to-a-colleague stuff.

  5. Writing forgettable, scroll-past content — nothing gets saved if nothing's worth keeping. Fix: build posts around a framework, a number, or a hard-won lesson people want to reference later.

  6. Deleting a post that flopped in the first hour — late saves and comments now revive posts days later. Fix: be patient; stop deleting "underperformers" too early.

  7. Posting and ghosting — dwell time and comment depth are core signals; your comment section is part of the post. Fix: block 30 minutes after publishing to reply thoughtfully.

  8. Chasing engagement bait — "Comment YES if you agree" is now a penalty, not a hack. Fix: ask a real question that earns a real opinion.

  9. Putting your distribution on the company logo — branded pages lost the feed; people out-distribute pages. Fix: post from your personal profile; let employees be the reach.

  10. Building an audience instead of authority — the platform is concentrating reach toward a small group of focused, credible voices. Fix: stop counting followers, start becoming undeniable on one topic.
